Aloyo Joyce’s Journey of Empowerment

Aloyo Joyce’s Journey of Empowerment

When Aloyo Joyce joined WORUDET’s training program on poultry management, she carried with her determination and a dream of building a sustainable livelihood. The training equipped her with practical skills on how to care for chickens, manage feeding, and maintain hygiene for healthy egg production.

With her savings, Joyce purchased a small flock of chickens. She diligently applied what she had learned, ensuring the birds were well looked after. Soon, she began selling eggs in her community. The income, though modest, became a stepping stone. Joyce saved consistently, demonstrating the discipline and resilience that WORUDET’s programs aim to instill.

Her savings grew, and she invested in goats. This marked a significant milestone: diversifying her sources of income and building a stronger foundation for her household. Yet Joyce’s vision did not stop there. She is now saving again, this time with the goal of purchasing better seeds for her garden. She believes that improved seeds will yield stronger harvests, provide food security for her family, and generate surplus income to reinvest in her farming activities.

Reflecting on her journey, Joyce says: “I started with just a few chickens, but with knowledge and persistence, I now have goats and I am preparing to plant crops. Better seeds will help me produce more, feed my family, and sell the extra to keep growing.”

Joyce’s story is more than personal success … it is a testament to the transformative power of knowledge, savings, and determination. It shows how women in refugee and host communities can rise above challenges, build sustainable livelihoods, and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
