WORUDET has adopted a multidimensional approach to combat GBV, encompassing both prevention and response strategies. This involves active advocacy to enhance existing laws and ensure their effective enforcement, thereby securing women’s rights within the framework of national legislation and promoting an environment where women can confidently pursue legal action.
We conduct comprehensive campaigns aimed at transforming societal norms and degrading behavioral patterns that perpetuate violence against women. Our initiatives include sensitization meetings, peer education facilitated by community volunteers, community theatre, as well as employing “educational entertainment” through TV and radio broadcasts. We also use mass communication channels to drive meaningful change.
WORUDET places a significant emphasis on girls’ empowerment by implementing dedicated projects and integrating empowerment components into education programs. These initiatives focus on strengthening girls’ capacity to protect themselves and assert their rights.
Recognizing the importance of involving men and boys in the fight against GBV, we actively engage them to contribute to the collective effort to end violence against women (VAW).
In humanitarian settings, we advance the prevention of violence against women by actively involving them in the planning and implementation of humanitarian interventions.
Furthermore, we advocate for the integration of VAW prevention into the broader development framework. This includes minimizing VAW risks in women’s economic empowerment programs and primary education as part of a wider strategy to mainstream prevention efforts into development work.
